SACRED ART
In this display case, are exhibited elements of significant artistic and devotional value. These include two ancient garments adorned with gold embroidery which once adorned the processional statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Number one D and Number two D).
They bear witness to the century-old practice of dressing religious and Marian effigies with gold and precious fabrics, known as the tradition of ‘dressed madonnas’, which has deep roots and developed from the medieval period in Europe.
Connected to these garments are two outfits belonging to the Infant Jesus (Number six D and Number seven D). A distinctive element is the ancient wig that was once placed on the head of the statue (Number four D).
