A cultural repository safeguarding and enhancing the historical-artistic heritage and the historical identity of the local church
The Museum’s mission encompasses the preservation and exhibition of a cultural heritage at risk of dispersion, intertwining with the desire to narrate the territory from a historical, cultural, social, and religious perspective. The setup, beyond the purpose of conserving artworks and objects, aims to impart values, offering visitors an engaging experience that transcends mere “contemplation”. This cultural endeavor doesn’t merely recover the past but embraces a pursuit of the absolute, a quest for beauty and spirituality. Apart from being an exhibition space, the Museum serves as a place for education and in-depth exploration, inviting visitors to delve into not only the physical objects but also the stories and meanings hidden within them.
The different narrative sections are dedicated to:
Cult, art, and Marian devotion
Cult of the Saints: St. Teresa of Avila and St. Michael the Archangel
Order of the Discalced Carmelites
The Carmelite complex is part of Mesagne’s Urban Museum System (SUM)
The Carmelite Complex is an integral part of the Urban Museum System (SUM), an agreement between the Municipality of Mesagne, the Parish of ‘Tutti i Santi,’ and Federalberghi. It participates in a project aimed at collectively enhancing and making accessible the region’s artistic, cultural, and museum-specific features. Within this framework, the Museum aims to provide cultural services not only to the community of Mesagne but to the entire territory.
