In this unique space history, spirituality and devotion
intertwine harmoniously
The Carmelite Museum, today under construction, zealously safeguards the cultural, religious, and artistic heritage of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, handed down by the Carmelite Fathers since the foundation of the Convent back in 1521. The roots of this richness delve into the past, tracing back to the late Byzantine and pre-Norman periods, when the worship of Saint Michael the Archangel found refuge in the cave beneath the church’s foundations.
Through the exhibition route, the Museum narrates the profound connection of the religious site with the Worship of Saint Michael the Archangel, and the devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the presence of the Order of Discalced carmelites, and its ties to the community and territory of Mesagne.
